India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cow peas (dry) exports, with a CAGR of +91.4% from 2012 to 2022. Cow peas imports contracted remarkably to X tons in 2022, waning by -39.9% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 409%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cow peas imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 375%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X tons) was the key importer of cow peas (dry), generating 84% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), making up a 13% share of total imports. Nepal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cow peas imports into India stood at +18.2%. At the same time, Nepal (+32.1%) and Pakistan (+16.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +32.1% from 2012-2022. In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cow peas (dry) in Southern Asia, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports.
In India, cow peas imports expanded at an average annual rate of +19.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Pakistan (+18.3% per year) and Nepal (+34.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 38%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.
