In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread exports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Bangladesh (X tons) represented the largest exporter of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread, creating 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), creating a 33% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X), India ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 100% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +20.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, purchases abroad of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread decreased by -35.2% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 108%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.
In value terms, crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
India represented the main importer of crispbread, rusks and toasted bread in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 77% of total imports in 2022. Nepal (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Pakistan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 17% share of total imports. The following importers - Maldives (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons) - each resulted at a 4.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to crispbread, rusk and toasted bread imports into India stood at +24.8%. At the same time, Nepal (+39.8%), Afghanistan (+23.3%), Pakistan (+8.9%) and Maldives (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +39.8% from 2012-2022. India (+21 p.p.) and Nepal (+8.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Maldives and Pakistan saw its share reduced by -8.8% and -12.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported crispbread, rusks and toasted bread in Southern Asia, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Nepal ($X), with an 8.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +28.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Nepal (+28.5% per year) and Afghanistan (+19.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
