Crispbread Market Size in Southern Asia

The South Asian crispbread market reached $X in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. The total consumption indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. Exports in Southern Asia

In 2021, overseas shipments of crispbread increased by 6.4% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, crispbread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 43%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bangladesh was the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 52% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons) and India (X tons), together committing a 46% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Bangladesh decreased at an average annual rate of -14.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+58.3%) and Pakistan (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +58.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Pakistan (+19 p.p.), India (+9.5 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Bangladesh (-30 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) remains the largest crispbread supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 14% share.

In Bangladesh, crispbread exports shrank by an average annual rate of -7.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (-0.1% per year) and Pakistan (+0.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 16% against the previous year. Export price indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, crispbread export price increased by +75.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 19%. In 2021, the amount of crispbread imported in Southern Asia soared to X tons, growing by 171% on the year before. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, crispbread imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a temperate expansion. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
