Currant And Gooseberry Market Size in Southern Asia
In 2021, the South Asian currant and gooseberry market decreased by -22.5% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +74.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India increased by +95 percentage points.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest currant and gooseberry supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 4.3% share of total exports.
In India, currant and gooseberry exports expanded at an average annual rate of +51.4% over the period from 2012-2021.

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -25.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price faced a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 217%. Imports in Southern Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of currants and gooseberries were imported in Southern Asia; waning by -27.2% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, currant and gooseberry imports declined significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Pakistan was the key importer of currants and gooseberries in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 60% of total imports in 2021. Bangladesh (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Nepal (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons). All these countries together took near 37% share of total imports.
Pakistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the currants and gooseberries imports, with a CAGR of +8.7% from 2012 to 2021. Bangladesh experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Afghanistan (-8.8%) and Nepal (-20.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 21%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
