From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to modified starches exports from India stood at +7.3%. At the same time, Pakistan (+51.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +51.5% from 2012-2022. In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest modified starches supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with an 8.5% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, modified starches imports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
India was the main importer of dextrins and other modified starches in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 63% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), committing a 30% share of total imports. The following importers - Pakistan (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons) - each accounted for a 6.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to modified starches imports into India stood at +9.4%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+13.4%), Pakistan (+11.8%) and Sri Lanka (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2022. Bangladesh (+6.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while India saw its share reduced by -6.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dextrins and other modified starches in Southern Asia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 7.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +8.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+12.3% per year) and Pakistan (+8.3% per year).
