Exports in Southern Asia
In 2021, preserved fish fillet exports in Southern Asia reduced dramatically to X tons, which is down by -24.1% compared with the year before. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 546%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet exports fell markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 256%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Pakistan dominates exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), constituting a 5.5% share of total exports.
Exports from Pakistan increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+41.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +41.7% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of India increased by +5.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X) remains the largest preserved fish fillet supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
In Pakistan, preserved fish fillet exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports in Southern Asia
After six years of growth, purchases abroad of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) decreased by -19% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 138% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 78% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
Imports by Country
Bangladesh represented the main importer of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 67% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), achieving a 26% share of total imports. The following importers - Bhutan (X tons) and India (X tons) - each recorded a 5.9% share of total imports.
Bangladesh was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) imports, with a CAGR of +77.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+39.4%) and Bhutan (+8.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Sri Lanka experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Bangladesh and India increased by +66 and +2.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the largest preserved fish fillet importing markets in Southern Asia were Bangladesh ($X), Sri Lanka ($X) and Bhutan ($X), with a combined 95% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +65.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -20.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bhutan ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
