In 2021, approx. X tons of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines were exported in Southern Asia; growing by 31% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 93%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

India represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 75% of total exports. Bangladesh (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Pakistan (5.7%).

Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +17.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Pakistan (+61.4%) and Bangladesh (+11.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +61.4% from 2012-2021. Pakistan (+5.3 p.p.) and India (+5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Bangladesh saw its share reduced by -10.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.

In India, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Pakistan (+115.4% per year) and Bangladesh (+15.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+33.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Southern Asia

In 2021, the amount of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines imported in Southern Asia expanded markedly to X tons, picking up by 12% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +106.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 26%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

India dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 95% of total imports in 2021. Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into India increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. Sri Lanka (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in Southern Asia, comprising 99% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 0.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at -1.4%.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 15% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka stood at $X per ton.
