By contrast, Pakistan (-3.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Pakistan (+24 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (+13 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while India saw its share reduced by -36.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest frozen cuttlefishes supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

In India, frozen cuttlefishes exports plunged by an average annual rate of -27.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Pakistan (+1.2% per year) and Sri Lanka (+2.5% per year).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 105%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen cuttlefishes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 215% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
