After two years of decline, shipments abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) increased by 78% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 209% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, groundnuts exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 185% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest groundnuts supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Afghanistan ($X), with a 5.5% share of total exports.

In 2022, purchases abroad of ground-nut (in-shell) was finally on the rise to reach X tons after four years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 129%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, groundnuts imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 121%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Nepal (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) represented the main importer of ground-nut (in-shell) in Southern Asia, comprising 98% of total import. Bangladesh (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +23.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Afghanistan ($X), Nepal ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 98% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Bangladesh, which accounted for a further 1.6%.

Import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, groundnuts import price increased by +110.2% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
