India was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 53% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), Sri Lanka (X tons) and Nepal (X tons), together making up a 46% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Nepal (with a CAGR of +7.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest hair spray supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at -10.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (-20.1% per year) and Pakistan (-22.6% per year).

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -14.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hair spray imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

India represented the major importer of hair sprays in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 45% of total imports in 2022. Nepal (X tons) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Bangladesh (22%) and Pakistan (7.7%). Sri Lanka (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hair sprays imports, with a CAGR of +23.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+2.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Pakistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Bangladesh (-1.7%) and Nepal (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+42 p.p.), Bangladesh (+8.4 p.p.) and Pakistan (+3.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Nepal saw its share reduced by -41.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hair sprays in Southern Asia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Nepal, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled +26.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+3.6% per year) and Nepal (-20.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 53% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
