In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 24%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2021, purchases abroad of household washing and drying machines increased by 6.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, washing and drying machine imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, India (X tons) represented the largest importer of household washing and drying machines, comprising 65% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), Nepal (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons), together making up a 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Sri Lanka (X tons) and Maldives (X tons) - each resulted at a 3.9% share of total imports.
India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of household washing and drying machines. At the same time, Nepal (+25.4%), Bangladesh (+19.3%), Pakistan (+6.5%) and Maldives (+6.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +25.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Sri Lanka (-2.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bangladesh (+9.1 p.p.), Nepal (+8.6 p.p.) and Pakistan (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-17.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported household washing and drying machines in Southern Asia, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Nepal, with a 9.8% share.
In India, washing and drying machine imports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+18.0% per year) and Nepal (+22.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 6.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton.
