Exports in Southern Asia
Confectionery-making industrial machinery exports surged to X units in 2022, growing by 37% compared with the previous year's figure. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +101.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, confectionery-making industrial machinery exports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +71.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

India dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Sri Lanka (X units) and Pakistan (X units) - each recorded a 5.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to confectionery-making industrial machinery exports from India stood at +3.9%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+25.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +25.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Pakistan (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of India (+6.7 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (+2.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Pakistan (-9.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest confectionery-making industrial machinery supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 94% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +7.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Pakistan (-7.9% per year) and Sri Lanka (+56.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, falling by -17.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+25.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, the amount of industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of confectionery, cocoa or chocolate imported in Southern Asia dropped to X units, with a decrease of -5.7% against 2021. Overall, imports recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, confectionery-making industrial machinery imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 60% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
India represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which finished at 51% of total imports. Bangladesh (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 27% share, followed by Pakistan (13%) and Sri Lanka (6.6%).
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Sri Lanka (with a CAGR of +14.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of confectionery, cocoa or chocolate in Southern Asia, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in India totaled -1.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Pakistan (+8.2% per year) and Bangladesh (-4.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while Bangladesh ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
