In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest wire and cable supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 4.8% share of total exports.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of insulated wire and cable was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the key importer of insulated wire and cable, constituting 56% of total imports. Bangladesh (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Pakistan (7.8%) and Sri Lanka (5.5%). Nepal (X tons) and Maldives (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to wire and cable imports into India stood at -1.5%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+14.0%), Nepal (+11.4%), Maldives (+4.8%) and Pakistan (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insulated wire and cable in Southern Asia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +3.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+16.9% per year) and Pakistan (+8.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Sri Lanka ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
