Bangladesh was the main exporter of lasers, other than laser diodes in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was approx. 58% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X units), generating a 38% share of total exports. Sri Lanka (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest laser supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 1.1% share of total exports.

As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, laser imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 53%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Bangladesh (X units) and India (X units) dominates imports structure, together mixing up 85% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X units), constituting a 7.7% share of total imports. The following importers - Nepal (X units) and Afghanistan (X units) - together made up 5.2% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Nepal (with a CAGR of +37.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lasers, other than laser diodes in Southern Asia, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Bangladesh ($X), with a 1.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 1.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled +7.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+11.7% per year) and Sri Lanka (+8.9% per year).

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 181%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2018 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
