Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +76.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of India (+38 p.p.) and Pakistan (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest public works machinery supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India stood at +15.9%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -51.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 90% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while India amounted to $X per unit.

Imports in Southern Asia
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of machinery for public works and building increased by 99% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 242% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, public works machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, India (X units) was the main importer of machinery for public works and building, committing 69% of total imports. Sri Lanka (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by Nepal (9%) and Pakistan (4.6%). The following importers - Bangladesh (X units) and Afghanistan (X units) - together made up 5.9% of total imports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the machinery for public works and building imports, with a CAGR of +31.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Pakistan (+14.0%), Bangladesh (+13.2%), Nepal (+7.6%), Afghanistan (+7.5%) and Sri Lanka (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of India (+43 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Afghanistan (-2.7 p.p.), Nepal (-10.9 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (-23.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for public works and building in Southern Asia, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +7.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+23.9% per year) and Pakistan (+13.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per unit, falling by -20.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 48%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
