Manuka Market Size in Southern Asia

For the third consecutive year, the South Asian manuka market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -11.3% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed a deep setback. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Manuka Production in Southern Asia

In value terms, manuka production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Manuka exports surged to X tons in 2022, increasing by 22% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports enjoyed a buoyant increase. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan totaled $X per ton.

In 2022, approx. X tons of manuka were imported in Southern Asia; picking up by 8.4% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, India ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and Nepal ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 74% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Nepal, with a CAGR of +20.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 34%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
