Medicaments containing vitamins imports shrank to X tons in 2021, with a decrease of -9.9% on the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +17.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

The following importers - Pakistan (X tons), Maldives (X tons) and India (X tons) - together made up 9.3% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to medicaments containing vitamins imports into Afghanistan stood at +4.5%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+42.3%), Maldives (+12.1%) and Sri Lanka (+6.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +42.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-2.3%), Nepal (-3.8%) and Pakistan (-5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bangladesh (+20 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-1.9 p.p.), Afghanistan (-2.5 p.p.), Pakistan (-6.7 p.p.) and Nepal (-11.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Afghanistan ($X), India ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 66% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +24.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -20.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
