Market Size for Mineral or Aerated Waters in Southern Asia
The South Asian mineral or aerated water market shrank to $X in 2022, which is down by -2.4% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, showed a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mineral or aerated water production reduced slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 25%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of mineral or aerated waters decreased by -51.2% to X litres in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 53%. The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mineral or aerated water exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
India (X litres) and Bangladesh (X litres) dominates exports structure, together constituting 93% of total exports. Pakistan (X litres) and Nepal (X litres) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Pakistan (with a CAGR of +5.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest mineral or aerated water supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled -8.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (-0.0% per year) and Pakistan (-3.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by 42% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per litre), while Bangladesh ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of mineral or aerated waters, when their volume increased by 16% to X litres. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 91%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mineral or aerated water imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded perceptible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X litres) represented the main importer of mineral or aerated waters, comprising 45% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X litres), Maldives (X litres), Afghanistan (X litres) and Bangladesh (X litres), together creating a 55% share of total imports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mineral or aerated waters imports, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Bangladesh experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Maldives (-1.8%) and Afghanistan (-18.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+38 p.p.) and Pakistan (+11 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Maldives and Afghanistan saw its share reduced by -3.4% and -43.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mineral or aerated waters in Southern Asia, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +22.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Maldives (+0.8% per year) and Afghanistan (-8.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2022, surging by 9.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, mineral or aerated water import price increased by +110.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 92%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per litre), while Pakistan ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Afghanistan (+12.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
