Pakistan represented the largest exporter of oriented strandboard (OSB) in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X cubic meters, which was near 84% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by India (X cubic meters), committing a 16% share of total exports.

Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 643% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. Imports in Southern Asia

Oriented strandboard (OSB) imports dropped remarkably to X cubic meters in 2021, falling by -33.4% against the previous year. In general, imports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, oriented strandboard (OSB) imports reduced markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 145%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

India was the major importing country with an import of around X cubic meters, which accounted for 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X cubic meters) and Afghanistan (X cubic meters), together creating a 30% share of total imports. Maldives (X cubic meters), Sri Lanka (X cubic meters) and Pakistan (X cubic meters) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to oriented strandboard (OSB) imports into India stood at -22.7%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+22.0%) and Afghanistan (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Maldives (-10.6%), Sri Lanka (-14.4%) and Pakistan (-15.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Bangladesh (+16 p.p.), Afghanistan (+12 p.p.) and Maldives (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-32 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported oriented strandboard (OSB) in Southern Asia, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Afghanistan ($X), with an 8.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 7.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to -19.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Afghanistan (-3.1% per year) and Bangladesh (+15.7% per year).
