Moreover, pears and quinces production in India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Nepal (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Afghanistan (X tons), with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in India stood at -1.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Nepal (-2.9% per year) and Afghanistan (+19.7% per year).
In 2022, the average yield of pears and quinces in Southern Asia totaled X tons per ha, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 8.6%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the pears and quinces yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pears and quinces exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 110%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

India was the main exporter of pears and quinces in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 55% of total exports in 2022. Nepal (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), Afghanistan (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 44% share of total exports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the pears and quinces exports, with a CAGR of +65.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Nepal (+25.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Bangladesh experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Afghanistan (-9.9%) and Pakistan (-36.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Afghanistan increased by +55, +25, +6.6 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest pears and quinces supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with a 2.2% share.
In India, pears and quinces exports expanded at an average annual rate of +32.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (+4.7% per year) and Afghanistan (-16.1% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 33% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a strong expansion. Imports in Southern Asia
Pears and quinces imports soared to X tons in 2022, increasing by 16% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate tangible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pears and quinces imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
India was the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 73% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), achieving a 20% share of total imports. Nepal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to pears and quinces imports into India stood at +5.1%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+18.0%) and Nepal (+8.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +8.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+29.5% per year) and Nepal (+18.7% per year).
