The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, India (X tons) was the major exporter of phosphinates (hypophosphites) and phosphonates (phosphites), generating 75% of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Sri Lanka (7.5%).

Exports from India decreased at an average annual rate of -1.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+78.2%) and Pakistan (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 92%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, phosphinates and phosphonates imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

India dominates imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was approx. 90% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), creating a 5.2% share of total imports. Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
