Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 70% against the previous year. In 2022, the amount of pineapples imported in Southern Asia shrank modestly to X tons, waning by -2.2% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 201%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pineapple imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 326% against the previous year. Maldives was the main importer of pineapples in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 48% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Afghanistan (X tons), India (X tons) and Bhutan (X tons), together comprising a 45% share of total imports. Pakistan (X tons) and Nepal (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
