Exports in Southern Asia
Plastic or non-precious metal watch exports soared to X units in 2022, with an increase of 48% on 2021 figures. Total exports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +123.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic or non-precious metal watch exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 48%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The shipments of the one major exporters of plastic or non-precious metal watches, namely India, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plastic or non-precious metal watches exports, with a CAGR of +2.5% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest plastic or non-precious metal watch supplier in Southern Asia.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, approx. X units of plastic or non-precious metal watches were imported in Southern Asia; shrinking by -12.9% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic or non-precious metal watch imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
India dominates imports structure, amounting to X units, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X units), comprising a 6.5% share of total imports. The following importers - Nepal (X units) and Bangladesh (X units) - together made up 6% of total imports.
India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of plastic or non-precious metal watches. At the same time, Nepal (+27.0%), Bangladesh (+9.4%) and Pakistan (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +27.0% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Nepal increased by +3.3 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic or non-precious metal watches in Southern Asia, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 1.6% share.
In India, plastic or non-precious metal watch imports expanded at an average annual rate of +12.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Pakistan (+3.8% per year) and Bangladesh (+8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 32% against the previous year. In general, the import price posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 80%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while Nepal ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
