As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons) represented the key exporter of plastics household articles and toilet articles, making up 73% of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Bangladesh (7.6%). Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to plastic household ware exports from India stood at +2.5%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+27.9%) and Bangladesh (+21.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +27.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Pakistan (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka increased by +5.9 and +2.8 percentage points, respectively. In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest plastic household ware supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 82% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 7.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +5.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Bangladesh (+23.7% per year) and Pakistan (-5.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of plastics household articles and toilet articles increased by 16% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports showed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plastic household ware imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 34%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the three major importers of plastics household articles and toilet articles, namely India, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Sri Lanka (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Nepal (X tons). All these countries together took near 16% share of total imports. Maldives (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +18.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and Sri Lanka ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 74% of total imports.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +26.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
