In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of plums and sloes, when their volume decreased by -10.2% to X tons. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 178% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plum and sloe exports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 269%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Afghanistan was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 81% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), constituting a 16% share of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Afghanistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the plums and sloes exports, with a CAGR of +22.3% from 2012 to 2022. Pakistan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. India (-17.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2022, the amount of plums and sloes imported in Southern Asia expanded rapidly to X tons, with an increase of 12% on the year before. In general, imports recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plum and sloe imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 56%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
