Exports in Southern Asia
Polyvinyl chloride exports rose notably to X tons in 2022, with an increase of 8.9% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports saw prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 375% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 210%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Exports by Country
India was the largest exporter of polyvinyl chloride in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 53% of total exports in 2022. Pakistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 47% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +57.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 100% of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +47.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, waning by -12.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 99% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, the amount of polyvinyl chloride imported in Southern Asia rose modestly to X tons, surging by 4.9% on 2021 figures. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +12.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 19%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 72%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
India represented the major importer of polyvinyl chloride in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 80% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), creating a 15% share of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to polyvinyl chloride imports into India stood at +5.4%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+10.2%), Pakistan (+7.0%) and Sri Lanka (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bangladesh emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +10.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Bangladesh (+4.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of India (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported polyvinyl chloride in Southern Asia, comprising 82% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Sri Lanka, with a 2.6% share.
In India, polyvinyl chloride imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+11.6% per year) and Sri Lanka (+5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, polyvinyl chloride import price increased by +49.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 61%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
