The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +12.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 19%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyvinyl chloride imports shrank slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 72%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

India represented the major importer of polyvinyl chloride in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 80% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons), creating a 15% share of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

In India, polyvinyl chloride imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+11.6% per year) and Sri Lanka (+5.6% per year).
