The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +103.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, potato chips exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Pakistan was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (X tons), comprising a 21% share of total exports. Bangladesh (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Pakistan increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, India (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +5.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Bangladesh (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Bangladesh (-2.3 p.p.) significantly weakened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Pakistan ($X), India ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 100% share of total exports.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +8.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -5.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 2.9% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
