The shipments of the one major exporters of preserved tomatoes, namely India, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the preserved tomatoes exports, with a CAGR of -18.1% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) also remains the largest preserved tomato supplier in Southern Asia.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

India represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 62% of total imports. Maldives (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 24% share, followed by Nepal (6.1%) and Sri Lanka (4.7%). Bangladesh (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to preserved tomato imports into India stood at +17.3%. At the same time, Nepal (+22.1%), Sri Lanka (+15.8%), Maldives (+13.7%) and Bangladesh (+6.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Nepal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.1% from 2012-2021. In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported preserved tomatoes in Southern Asia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Nepal, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled +17.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Maldives (+10.2% per year) and Nepal (+26.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 5.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild decline. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Nepal ($X per ton) and Maldives ($X per ton), while Bangladesh ($X per ton) and Sri Lanka ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+3.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
