After four years of decline, overseas shipments of printed or illustrated postcards and printed cards increased by 9.3% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, postcard exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -22.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 45%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, India (X tons) represented the key exporter of printed or illustrated postcards and printed cards, making up 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), making up a 31% share of total exports. Bangladesh (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to postcard exports from India stood at -15.5%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+26.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Sri Lanka emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +26.7% from 2012-2021. In India, postcard exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+29.4% per year) and Bangladesh (-5.5% per year).

Postcard imports skyrocketed to X tons in 2021, rising by 36% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 42%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
