Market Size for Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Cranberries in Southern Asia
After five years of growth, the South Asian market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries decreased by -0.6% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2021, and then declined slightly in the following year.
Production of Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Cranberries in Southern Asia
In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production declined slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 169%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
The country with the largest volume of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production was Bangladesh (X tons), accounting for 74% of total volume. Moreover, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production in Bangladesh exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Afghanistan (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Bangladesh totaled +11.7%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Afghanistan (+0.9% per year) and India (+0.7% per year).
In 2022, the average raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield in Southern Asia surged to X tons per ha, increasing by 56% compared with 2021. In general, the yield, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in Southern Asia shrank sharply to X ha, which is down by -36.8% on the previous year's figure. Overall, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 279% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Exports in Southern Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries increased by 48% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports surged to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +130.1% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Afghanistan (X tons) and India (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together comprising 95% of total exports. Bangladesh (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Afghanistan (with a CAGR of +47.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Afghanistan ($X), India ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 99% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Afghanistan, with a CAGR of +34.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 124% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per ton), while India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+21.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Cranberries
Imports in Southern Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries were imported in Southern Asia; jumping by 188% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 206% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 216% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
India prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 93% of total imports in 2022. Maldives (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
India was also the fastest-growing in terms of the raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries imports, with a CAGR of +59.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Maldives (+27.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of India (+67 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Maldives (-7.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries in Southern Asia, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports.
In India, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports increased at an average annual rate of +67.5% over the period from 2012-2022.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -9.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry import price decreased by +0.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 77%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($X per ton), while India amounted to $X per ton.
