The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 89% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, paddy rice exports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 67%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
India prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2022. Pakistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from India increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Pakistan (+16.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Pakistan increased by +2.4 percentage points.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest paddy rice supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 1.3% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Pakistan amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in Southern Asia
Paddy rice imports was estimated at X tons in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 65%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, paddy rice imports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 43%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Nepal prevails in imports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 96% of total imports in 2022. Pakistan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
Nepal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the paddy rice imports, with a CAGR of +6.4% from 2012 to 2022. Pakistan (-2.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Nepal (+3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Pakistan saw its share reduced by -3.2% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Nepal ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported paddy rice in Southern Asia, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 25% share of total imports.
In Nepal, paddy rice imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the period from 2012-2022.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 40% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per ton), while Nepal amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nepal (+2.2%).
