In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest sawnwood (non-coniferous) supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($X), with an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at -16.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Sri Lanka (-8.1% per year) and Pakistan (+13.0% per year).

In 2022, imports of sawnwood (non-coniferous) in Southern Asia shrank notably to X cubic meters, which is down by -31.5% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports reduced remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 36%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India was the key importer of sawnwood (non-coniferous) in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X cubic meters, which was approx. 77% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Maldives (X cubic meters) and Pakistan (X cubic meters), together comprising a 17% share of total imports. Bangladesh (X cubic meters) and Sri Lanka (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to sawnwood (non-coniferous) imports into India stood at +7.6%. At the same time, Bangladesh (+25.9%) and Maldives (+12.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India amounted to +7.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Pakistan (-7.5% per year) and Maldives (+8.1% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($X per cubic meter), while Maldives ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
