From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, knitted shawl and scarf exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 155% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Pakistan was the main exporter of shawls, scarves and the like of knitted or crocheted textiles in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 52% of total exports in 2022. Bangladesh (X units) held a 33% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by India (15%).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the export price increased by 23%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($X per unit), while Pakistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, knitted shawl and scarf imports in Southern Asia fell to X units, dropping by -7.5% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, knitted shawl and scarf imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Bangladesh ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 91% share of total imports.

In terms of the main importing countries, Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +20.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per unit, declining by -4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 39% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Afghanistan ($X per unit), while India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
