The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 16%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
In 2021, India (X tons) represented the key importer of silicones (in primary forms), committing 74% of total imports. Pakistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Bangladesh (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 24% share of total imports. Sri Lanka (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to silicone imports into India stood at +7.3%. At the same time, Sri Lanka (+14.1%), Pakistan (+8.9%) and Bangladesh (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported silicones (in primary forms) in Southern Asia, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Pakistan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +8.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Pakistan (+9.1% per year) and Bangladesh (+6.6% per year).
