The South Asian skis market expanded markedly to $X in 2021, rising by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight curtailment. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Sri Lanka ($X per ton) and Bangladesh ($X per ton), while Pakistan ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

In 2021, purchases abroad of skis for winter sports increased by 126% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw slight growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 360% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Moreover, Maldives emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +20.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Afghanistan (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+14 p.p.) and Maldives (+7.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Afghanistan saw its share reduced by -2.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported skis for winter sports in Southern Asia, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Maldives ($X), with a 6.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Bhutan, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India stood at +6.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Maldives (+24.1% per year) and Bhutan (+8.8% per year).
