Bangladesh was the major importer of tapioca and substitutes in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 59% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons) and Sri Lanka (X tons), together mixing up a 36% share of total imports. Nepal (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Bangladesh increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Pakistan (+24.4%) and Nepal (+12.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +24.4% from 2012-2021. Sri Lanka experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Pakistan (+19 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Bangladesh and Sri Lanka saw its share reduced by -8% and -8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported tapioca and substitutes in Southern Asia, comprising 66% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with an 11% share.
