In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Sri Lanka (X litres) was the key exporter of non-mineral or non-aerated waters, achieving 54% of total exports. India (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bangladesh (X litres) and Pakistan (X litres). All these countries together took near 45% share of total exports.

The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2021, rising by 75% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed moderate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 157%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per litre), while Bangladesh ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 297%. The volume of import peaked at X litres in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 100%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India was the key importing country with an import of about X litres, which amounted to 69% of total imports. Afghanistan (X litres) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Maldives (X litres). All these countries together took approx. 27% share of total imports. Nepal (X litres) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-mineral or non-aerated water imports into India stood at +22.5%. At the same time, Maldives (+62.6%) and Nepal (+36.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Maldives emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +62.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Afghanistan (-24.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+64 p.p.), Maldives (+8.2 p.p.) and Nepal (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Afghanistan saw its share reduced by -74.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported non-mineral or non-aerated waters in Southern Asia, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Maldives ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Afghanistan, with an 8.4% share.

In India, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Maldives (+46.4% per year) and Afghanistan (-33.8% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Southern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2021, surging by 17% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment.
