Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, textile wadding imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, India (X tons) was the largest importer of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof, mixing up 61% of total imports. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +20.0% from 2012-2021. Sri Lanka experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Pakistan (+6.2 p.p.) and India (+5.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Sri Lanka (-9.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, India ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported wadding of textile materials and articles thereof in Southern Asia, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bangladesh ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Nepal, with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in India totaled +11.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bangladesh (+10.4% per year) and Nepal (+19.4% per year).
