Man-Made Filament Fabric Market Size in Southern Asia
The South Asian man-made filament fabric market fell to $X in 2021, waning by -4.9% against the previous year. The total consumption indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine years. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports in Southern Asia
In 2021, approx. X tons of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers were exported in Southern Asia; surging by 4.4% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
India was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 72% of total exports. Pakistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Nepal (5.4%).
India experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers. Pakistan (-3.5%) and Nepal (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. India (+9.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Pakistan and Nepal saw its share reduced by -4.2% and -5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, India ($X) remains the largest man-made filament fabric supplier in Southern Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Pakistan ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in India totaled -2.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Pakistan (-0.3% per year) and Nepal (-8.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 49%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Nepal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (+3.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Southern Asia
Man-made filament fabric imports surged to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 34% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 36%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Bangladesh was the main importer of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports finishing at X tons, which was near 68% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Sri Lanka (X tons), India (X tons) and Afghanistan (X tons), together creating a 29% share of total imports.
Imports into Bangladesh increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+24.4%), Sri Lanka (+6.4%) and Afghanistan (+5.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +24.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of India (+6.9 p.p.) and Bangladesh (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Afghanistan (-2.4 p.p.) and Sri Lanka (-4.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Bangladesh ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers in Southern Asia, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 13% share.
In Bangladesh, man-made filament fabric imports expanded at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (+8.0% per year) and India (+8.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Southern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 7.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 31%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
