In value terms, zinc ores and concentrates exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 30%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Pakistan was the key exporter of zinc ores and concentrates in Southern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 62% of total exports in 2021. India (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by Afghanistan (16%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to zinc ores and concentrates exports from Pakistan stood at +53.6%. At the same time, Afghanistan (+85.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Afghanistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +85.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, India (-30.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Pakistan (+62 p.p.) and Afghanistan (+16 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of India (-78 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Afghanistan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 100% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, Pakistan, with a CAGR of +47.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Southern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -59.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while Afghanistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Southern Asia
Zinc ores and concentrates imports surged to X tons in 2021, increasing by 1,459% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a dramatic setback. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, zinc ores and concentrates imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, faced a sharp shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
India represented the major importer of zinc ores and concentrates in Southern Asia, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 85% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Pakistan (X tons), making up a 15% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to zinc ores and concentrates imports into India stood at -39.7%. At the same time, Pakistan (+12.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Southern Asia, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2021. Pakistan (+15 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while India saw its share reduced by -15.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the largest zinc ores and concentrates importing markets in Southern Asia were India ($X) and Pakistan ($X).
Pakistan, with a CAGR of +7.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review.
