Acetone Market Size in Spain

In 2021, the Spanish acetone market increased by 60% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after six years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, faced a drastic downturn. In value terms, acetone exports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -25.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 65%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, acetone imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a pronounced increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

France (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of acetone imports to Spain, with a combined 86% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, India and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 12%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +160.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Based on 2021 figures, acetone import price increased by +109.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 59%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Netherlands ($X per ton) and France ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
