Aniline Derivatives Market Size in Spain

After two years of decline, the Spanish aniline derivatives market increased by 9.2% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. Aniline derivatives consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, aniline derivatives production fell to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the production volume increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts decreased by -47.7% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 266%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell markedly in the following year.

In value terms, aniline derivatives exports dropped markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,090% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main destinations of aniline derivatives exports from Spain, with a combined 91% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Peru (with a CAGR of +103.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for aniline derivatives and their salts exports from Spain, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($X), with a 7.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belgium totaled +101.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Peru (+107.8% per year) and Italy (+41.8% per year).

The average aniline derivatives export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -39.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 225% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+43.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Spain

In 2021, purchases abroad of aniline derivatives and their salts was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aniline derivatives imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted measured growth. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), India (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of aniline derivatives imports to Spain, with a combined 89% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and the UK, which together accounted for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Switzerland (with a CAGR of +164.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, India ($X), China ($X) and Portugal ($X) appeared to be the largest aniline derivatives suppliers to Spain, with a combined 83% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Switzerland, Italy, the United States, Germany and the UK, which together accounted for a further 16%.

Switzerland, with a CAGR of +161.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average aniline derivatives import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 37%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
