Overall, total exports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +88.6% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 76%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

France (X tons) was the main destination for bridge exports from Spain, accounting for a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, bridge exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Morocco (X tons), with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France amounted to +25.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+31.8% per year) and Morocco (+19.4% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 8.6% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third consecutive year, Spain recorded growth in supplies from abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel), which increased by 31% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 366% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, bridge imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 330% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Denmark (X tons), France (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main suppliers of bridge imports to Spain, together comprising 77% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by France (with a CAGR of +108.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) to Spain, comprising 42% of total imports.
