Ceramic Tile Market Size in Spain

In 2022, the Spanish ceramic tile market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. Ceramic tile consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile production expanded rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by 20%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of ceramic tiles, when their volume decreased by -12.5% to X square meters. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 61% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, ceramic tile exports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +40.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

France (X square meters), the United States (X square meters) and the UK (X square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Spain, together accounting for 28% of total exports. These countries were followed by Israel, Italy, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Germany, the Dominican Republic, Belgium, Greece and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +23.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Spain were France ($X), the United States ($X) and the UK ($X), together accounting for 32% of total exports.

The United States, with a CAGR of +18.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average ceramic tile export price amounted to $X per square meter, increasing by 24% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to the Dominican Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. X square meters of ceramic tiles were imported into Spain; rising by 90% against the year before. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 110%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic tile imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2022, Italy (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of ceramic tile to Spain, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic tile imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X square meters), more than tenfold. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per square meter, and then dropped notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
