Other Cereals Market Size in Spain

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in the Spanish other cereals market, when its value decreased by -16.4% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a strong increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, other cereals production fell slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 101% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, other cereals exports shrank to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -33.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

France (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of other cereals exports from Spain, together comprising 85% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 12%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 966%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

In 2021, Poland (X tons) constituted the largest other cereals supplier to Spain, with a 80% share of total imports. Lithuania (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.8% share.

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of other cereals to Spain, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 2.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Poland amounted to +139.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-0.1% per year) and Lithuania (+4.0% per year).

The average other cereals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
