In value terms, computing machinery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +23.7% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Portugal (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of computing machinery exports from Spain, together comprising 60% of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Poland, Hong Kong SAR, France, the United States, Nigeria, the UK and China, which together accounted for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +38.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Portugal ($X) remains the key foreign market for computing machinery and parts and accessories thereof exports from Spain, comprising 32% of total exports. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Portugal totaled +4.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+18.1% per year) and the Netherlands (-1.1% per year).

Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, computing machinery imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 23%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of computing machinery imports to Spain, with a combined 55% share of total imports. Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland, Vietnam, the UK, Ireland and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
