Curtains Market Size in Spain

In 2022, the Spanish curtains market increased by 4.5% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Curtains consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, curtains production rose rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production posted a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, the amount of curtains and interior blinds exported from Spain declined modestly to X square meters, with a decrease of -3.2% against the year before. Overall, exports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, curtains exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +8.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

France (X square meters), Portugal (X square meters) and Italy (X square meters) were the main destinations of curtains exports from Spain, together comprising 70% of total exports. Chile, Mexico, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Morocco, the United States and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Switzerland (with a CAGR of +36.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for curtains and interior blinds exports from Spain, comprising 43% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Portugal ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +6.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Portugal (+4.0% per year) and Italy (+5.0% per year).

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, overseas purchases of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -38.8% to X square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X square meters, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, curtains imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +18.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, China (X square meters) constituted the largest curtains supplier to Spain, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, curtains imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X square meters), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X square meters), with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+3.3% per year) and India (+0.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of curtains and interior blinds to Spain, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+4.0% per year) and Portugal (+1.7% per year).
