After four years of decline, the Spanish non-wheat groats market increased by 105% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. In general, exports, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-wheat groats exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Portugal (X tons), Cameroon (X tons) and Angola (X tons) were the main destinations of non-wheat groats exports from Spain, together comprising 56% of total exports. Cote d'Ivoire, Costa Rica, Hong Kong SAR, the UK, Gabon, Burkina Faso, Malaysia, Morocco and Lebanon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +136.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average non-wheat groats export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 21% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, non-wheat groats imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt downturn. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest non-wheat groats supplier to Spain, with a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, non-wheat groats imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France amounted to -9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+15.9% per year) and Germany (-3.6% per year).
