In 2021, approx. X tons of gypsum and anhydrite were imported into Spain; with a decrease of -15.3% on 2020 figures. Overall, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 425%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, gypsum and anhydrite imports declined to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 272%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, France (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of gypsum and anhydrite to Spain, with a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, gypsum and anhydrite imports from France exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Portugal (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 7.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from France totaled +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Portugal (+31.6% per year) and Germany (+6.9% per year).
In value terms, Portugal ($X) constituted the largest supplier of gypsum and anhydrite to Spain, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 5.2% share.
