Portugal (X tons) was the main destination for aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports from Spain, accounting for a 62% share of total exports. Moreover, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives exports to Portugal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ireland (X tons), fourfold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 16% share.

In 2021, purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of aromatic hydrocarbons decreased by -29.6% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 125%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 152% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives imports to Spain, together accounting for 94% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Belgium (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest aromatic hydrocarbons derivatives suppliers to Spain were Belgium ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 82% share of total imports.
